Dust On A Brother Drum or Toner

Often I receive emails or messages asking for help with the popular line of Brother MFC machines. The most common problem is the dust on the drum which causes what many call “dirty prints or copies”. Many find ourselves in the position of following the instructions given and it simply does not solve the problem and time is money, right? Many solutions could have you up and running quickly.

I want to give you a a quick group of cleaning procedures that will hopefully have you back to business right away. First, be sure you remove the drum and toner assembly as soon as you see the problem. Next remove the toner from the drum while taking the c-clip from one side of the roller shaft **do not lose the the clip** and pull shaft out from other end. Next, lift assembly straight up and this may require slight prying. Then remove your roller from assembly and DO NOT touch the roller.

Wipe using a clean, soft cloth, vacuum etc… to remove the excess toner out of the brush. Once you do this and clean the corona wire with the green tab you should be ready to reinsert the drum unit…test printer.

These quick tips should help you and get back up running again quickly.

Recycling Your Shipping Supplies

If you ship and receive packages at your office or home on a regular basis you will figure out that you have more styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap and boxes than you know what to do with. If you ship items out on a regular basis, recycle your shipping supplies by reusing them in your outgoing packages.

Put styrofoam peanuts and pieces, bubble wrap and other packing material to use in crafts. Glue materials onto paper for 3-D collages and pictures.
Use boxes around the house to organize, sort and store any number of things. Boxes can also be used to hold gifts before wrapping them.
Drop your styrofoam peanuts, bubble wrap and other packing materials off at a UPS or pack and ship store. These stores will usually take these products as a donation and re-use them in their business.
Run an ad in a free classifieds such as Craig’s List online offering free shipping supplies. Many people do eBay or other online sales and would love to recycle your shipping supplies for you.
Place styrofoam peanuts in the bottom of flower pots. This will help with drainage, cut down on the amount of dirt you need to put in the pot, and make the pot lighter weight for moving it.
Turn styrofoam into a permanent glue for use around the house. Soak the Styrofoam in a commercially purchased biodegradable solvent. It will break down into a sticky substance that works well as a permanent glue.

I have included some details on the apps that will give you the features you want when printing with your iPad.

ePrint

This is a universal application that can be used with all types of Wi-Fi printers. This is directly networked to your printer so there is no need to have a helper app on your desktop for it to work. This will allow you to print Web pages from its very own built-in browser and notes from its own notepad. It can also print data from your calendar, contacts, and documents from your iDisk or WebDAV server, clipboard, and photos.

This app specializes on printing remotely. You can send your documents, such as notes, web pages and photos, to your PrintShare account on the internet. These saved documents can be accessed by any computer provided that they have installed the helper software, and then print those documents to any printer connected to that computer.

Tools To Clean a Laser Printer Safely

Whether you are an expert or a first timer at this it is important to take your time. Be sure you know exactly what to do and use the right tools. The cleaning process I am going over is basic, if you are uncomfortable in anyway consult a service professional.

While cleaning your laser printer, the last thing you want is to have toner in your lungs or on your skin. Toner particles are so fine that they can take more than fifteen minutes to settle if they become airborne—make that hours if you have fans or air-conditioners circulating them through an office. To avoid inhaling toner particles, try to keep the air in the cleaning area stable and leave the printer area for several minutes after cleaning. When you return, move slowly, open all windows, and begin vacuuming any toner from the floor, tabletops, and so forth.

Tools you will need
Here are the basic tools you need to clean a laser printer:

Toner vacuum
Toner cloth
Mask
Cotton swabs
Isopropyl alcohol (99 percent pure)
Paint brush (soft bristle, about a half-inch wide)
Latex gloves (the ones used by doctors)
